NCAAW March Madness: Mississippi State vs. Illinois (-1.5) Prediction

What a tremendous season we’ve had so far and it’s only going to get better from here. We are currently up 41.42 units this season (141-102-1) in women’s basketball and had a fairly solid showing throughout the conference tournaments.

Now we get focused for the best stretch in all of sports: March Madness.

Note: We’ll be betting a small amount on every underdog this tournament and tracking it on Twitter (@WhoopinBets). I’ll also be posting a blog for every game this tournament and at the end of each one you’ll find my best bet.

Mississippi State vs. Illinois (-1.5) | over/under 134.5

Both of these two teams can score the basketball at a strong rate. I give the advantage to Mississippi State in this contest, however, because of its defense. The Bulldogs rank 45th out of 361 teams in team defense (59.1 pgg) despite giving up 75.3 in four of their final five games. Illinois got bounced in the Big 10 tournament by Maryland but had won back-to-back games coming into the postseason. The Fighting Illini average just under 76 points per game this season and with Mississippi State’s recent defensive struggles, I like Illinois to win this contest.

Best Bet: Illinois -1.5 / ML
