Wild Card Wednesday: Best Bets for October 5

Once again, we managed to go 3-2 with our picks, with Bayern Munich and Napoli both doing what they do best and the Phillies making no effort whatsoever to try to beat the Astros and get fifth place. With that last one out of the way, there are no meaningful baseball games on the slate for the final day of the season, which means you won’t see any baseball plays here.

But that’s OK, because we have Champions League action and a college football game tonight because of the weather issues in Florida. Hopefully, the Sunshine State can start to recover from a terrifying storm, and hopefully, UCF getting back on the field can help with getting things back to normal. Here are my best bets for October 5.

JUVENTUS WIN TO NIL, +110

Juve has to get a win here, as it’s lost its first two Champions League matches for the first time ever. It should be fine against Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, which has been shut out in two consecutive matches. I think Juve keeps a clean sheet here and at least keeps itself in the mix for advancing from the group.

CHELSEA-AC MILAN BTTS, -115

I’m playing this a bit safe, as I think AC Milan could easily get something out of this match and I’m very intrigued at the idea of playing AC Milan double chance at +115. But Chelsea are riding eight straight matches without a clean sheet, and even without its best lineup, AC Milan should be good value for a goal at Stamford Bridge. A draw and BTTS at +420 also holds a lot of value.

WIGAN ML, +185

Wigan have the best away record in the Championship, as well as the player with the best name in the English Championship in Max Power. Hull has been rather poor this season, and the Tigers come in scoreless in their past four matches. They’ve lost five straight matches, and nothing suggests they can turn this around. Wigan’s getting a lot of value here, so this play makes perfect sense.

LOUISVILLE CITY ML, -170

LouCity needs a win to nail down the playoff bye in the Eastern Conference. Detroit City’s trying for a home game, but Le Rouge faces the toughest trip in the East in this matchup. Detroit already lost 1-0 to Louisville at home, and I think LouCity can complete the double. This should be a win at Lynn Family Stadium.

SMU +3, -120

The Mustangs have kicked away two games to Maryland and TCU, but I think they’ve got a chance against a middling UCF squad. SMU’s run defense is poor, but its offense can score from anywhere. As long as they can put up points, they have a chance to cover this spread. Against UCF’s weak defense, that isn’t that hard of a task. UCF also isn’t a very good passing team this year, which makes SMU’s task more manageable. I think the Ponies can handle this trip to Orlando.
