With all of the soccer-based options we’ve got as the season comes to a close, I think now is the perfect time to make a play on several soccer matches. Some of these plays are going to be riskier than others, but if you listened to our podcast, you should know that I feel pretty good about these options for this Saturday’s actions.
With that being said, these are my best plays from the pitch for April 23.
FC COLOGNE WIN TO NIL, +155
The Foals still have hope of claiming a place in Europe next season, and they have the right opponent to try to take advantage of in this matchup. Arminia Bielefeld has been a disaster ever since beating Union Berlin, losing six of their past seven and getting beat via shutout in all six of them. This team just isn’t scoring a lot of goals at the moment, which should be a perfect setup for Cologne to grab a victory here.
PHILADELPHIA UNION AND U3.5, +135
I think the Union are going to lock down Montreal, but given that the Quebec side has been scoring goals like nobody’s business as of late, I want that insurance against a Montreal marker here. Philly has given up just four goals all season and has been brilliant at home, so I think the Union are going to bounce back after a poor showing against Toronto in their previous match.
MINNESOTA UNITED-CHICAGO FIRE NO ON BTTS, -110
The Fire have only scored five goals all season and conceded twice, and all but one of their matches has seen at least one team fail to get on the scoresheet. Minnesota has only been blanked once, with that coming against Austin, so I think the Loons are good for at least one goal in this one. Frankly, I think that’s all they’ll get, as I love a correct score play of 1-0 to the Loons.
BRIGHTON AND BTTS, +335
The Seagulls are the better side and are playing like it, but I’m not discounting Southampton’s ability to put home goals on the road. The Saints have scored in 10 away matches this season, and the 40 goals that Brighton has given up this year means that their backline can definitely be beaten. I think Southampton does it once, but it won’t be enough for the Saints to win.
SEATTLE SOUNDERS ML, +170
This is a really awful time to play the Sounders, as they’re coming off a bad showing with Miami that was caused by scheduling problems, as they had to play reserves after pushing all out to beat NYCFC in the CONCACAF Champions League. The Sounders have also dominated the Earthquakes at PayPal Park, holding a 4-0-4 record against San Jose in MLS competition since the stadium opened. When you can take plus money for a side that dominant, you do it.
