It is finally here folks, Conference Championship weekend. I’ve got 6 picks for this weekend, but I have 2 I want to highlight as my best bets. We have one for tonight, and one tomorrow.
Western Kentucky -3 (3.5 in most places now)
Conference USA championship goes down today at 6pm (central) on CBS Sports. Should be a good one between WKU and UTSA who is 11-1. This game is also going to be played at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.
WKU comes in with a dynamic offense led by Bailey Zappe who has this offense averaging over 43 points a game. The Hilltoppers average 525 yards of offense and 422 of that are passing yards.
UTSA comes in to this game off of their first loss of the season, a 45-23 loss to North Texas. A game where we had the Mean Green +11 because UTSA didn’t have much to play for and were on the road. In that game UTSA came up with a few more injuries, and obviously were destroyed. Several times this year UTSA has pulled off miracle wins, and I think that luck has started to run out for them.
Western Kentucky comes into this game riding a 7 game win streak that was started after a close loss to UTSA 52-46. In that first matchup WKU racked up more first downs and 110 more yards than UTSA, but turned the ball over twice in key situations. Since that loss WKU has found their stride, their closest win during this amazing winning streak was 15 points.
Bailey Zappe is a name you are going to hear a lot tonight and for good reason. The Houston Baptist transfer has come alive this season and has been torching CUSA defenses. Not worried about this game being in San Antonio, because Zappe and crew are experienced veterans who are ready for a challenge like this, a Championship game in their opponents back yard.
The over could be a lean here too even though it is a crazy high number. Let’s keep it simple though.
Western Kentucky -3
Best of luck, and let’s go Hilltoppers!
