It’s been a decent start to the college basketball betting season for me and I’m hoping my big wins haven’t come too early. On Saturday, I parlayed Howard ML (+359) and Howard +8 against Bradley and cashed on a +4.05 unit play.
If Ball State doesn’t somehow give up a 29-point lead to Omaha, I also hit on a +300 teaser but the Mavericks battled back enough to ruin my -6.5 number. A wise man once said, “you can’t win em all.”
But I’m pleased with my picks so far. I’m actually big on close losses much like the CFP committee. I had New Mexico State -7 yesterday and they won 77-71. I also had Toledo -8.5 and they won 81-73. I was big on fading Chicago State last season but they are playing much better basketball this season with a 2-0 ATS record with covers against St. Thomas and SIU-Edwardsville. The Cougars were underdogs for both those games and straight up won.
Today my card is full of NFL plays. Follow @kotacappers and @kotacapperpace to find my Sunday football card. I didn’t find a lot to love on today’s college basketball slate but I found an under and over I like.
South Dakota State vs. Stephen F. Austin o157
This total opened at 155.5 and both teams are averaging 79 points per game or more. South Dakota State is 1-1 on the over this season and are coming off a 104-88 loss to Alabama. While, Stephen F. Austin is coming off a season-opening 76-63 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor (D-III). The Jackrabbits shot 45 percent from beyond the arc in their season-opener but shot 29 percent from 3-point land against the Tide and still managed to score 88 points. SDSU is going to score points in this game and the Lumberjacks enter this contest having scored 76 points or more in 17 of their last 23 games.
Minnesota vs. Princeton u133
Defense has been the name of the game for Minnesota and first-year head coach Ben Johnson. The Gophers have held Kansas City to 56 points and Western Kentucky to 69 on Friday. The over, however, hit by four points against the Hilltoppers. Princeton held some random team to 28 points to open its 2021-22 campaign and followed that up with a 66-62 win over South Carolina. The Gophers are two-point favorites in this game and I think Princeton has a good chance to pull off the upset. I see this being a close game, so that’s why the under is the play here.
