We ran into Bad Sam Darnold on Sunday, but the Packers, Patriots and Bengals all came through with ease to give us a win for the day in NFL action. We’ve got plenty of football, basketball and hockey available today while we wait for the World Series to get going, so let’s try to keep the wins coming. Here are my best plays for October 25.
CAPITALS ML, -155
You don’t beat the Capitals if you aren’t getting pucks to the net, and right now, Ottawa isn’t getting pucks to the net. The Senators rank just 25th in shots, and they’ve dropped four straight to Washington in the battle of the capital cities. The Senators have gone under in all five games played this season, and Alex Ovechkin and friends aren’t the kind of group that plays low-scoring games. The Capitals should get another win in Ottawa here.
BLUES ML, -175
You’d expect a higher line here, given that the Notes just drilled the Kings two nights ago, but these teams are playing a second game in three days and St. Louis is under -200 against someone they just routed by 7-3. I’ll probably play over here along with the Blues, as St. Louis leads the league in goals and Los Angeles is giving up the second-highest number of shots in the league. I think the momentum continues for St. Louis.
BULLS ML, -145
Chicago has covered the spread on 11 of its past 13 visits to Toronto, and the Raptors have not looked good to start this season. The Bulls are off to a 3-0 start this year, and I don’t think things are going to improve that much for Toronto this season. The Bulls are due for a come to reality moment soon, as their record has been built off the Pistons and Pelicans, but Toronto is shooting so poorly right now that I can’t go against Chicago here.
CLIPPERS ML, -150
The Clips, on the other hand, should get this figured out and fairly soon. Portland is coming off a rout of Phoenix, but the Blazers have not played well against the Clippers, failing to cover in four straight in Los Angeles and five of six overall. As all we’re asking the Clippers to do is get a win, I think there’s a good chance for a win here, as I think Los Angeles gets the cover here.
SAINTS ML, -190
The way you beat New Orleans is by throwing the football, which is something that Seattle really can’t do right now. Geno Smith has looked average against the Rams and terrible against the Steelers, and the Saints are likely to dare him to try to beat them by taking away the run. I don’t think Smith can do it, so I’ll back the Saints to go into Seattle and get a win.
