Three-Play Thursday: Best Bets for September 23

Last week’s Thursday football parlay turned into a disaster, in large part because Louisiana just wasn’t satisfied with a four-touchdown lead and decided it had to score one more touchdown against Ohio to push the game over the total. When a bet goes wrong in that manner, all you can do is move on and try again next time.

So that’s what we’re going to do, as we’ve got a couple parlays to try for Thursday (with a Friday game thrown in). Here are my best bets for September 23.

SERIE A PARLAY: ROMA ML, NAPOLI ML, TORINO-LAZIO O2.5, +360

Roma got picked off at Verona in its most recent match, but it was coming off a Europa League appearance and playing on the road. Coming home to face Udinese should be a much more positive outcome. Napoli is four-for-four so far in 2021-22, and Lazio has seen 17 goals scored in its four matches this season, so there’s a good chance of goals happening there. Serie A hasn’t always been my friend, but I feel good about these matches.

BASEBALL PARLAY: BLUE JAYS ML, PHILLIES ML, BRAVES ML, +275

This one is all about three teams who need to pick up wins and are facing terrible opponents. Toronto is trying desperately to hang on to its playoff spot, Atlanta wants to hold on to the NL East and avoid a showdown with Philadelphia for the division and the Phillies want to force the Braves into that final showdown series. And the three opponents they’re facing are the Twins, Pirates and Diamondbacks, who have an average of 94 losses between them and have been long out of the race. This could go wrong because Philadelphia managed to botch a game this week to 103-loss Baltimore, but this seems a reasonable risk.

FOOTBALL PARLAY: PANTHERS -6.5, APPALACHIAN STATE -6.5, LIBERTY ML, +315

This is the importance of getting your number. I think all three teams cover, but when I’m playing a parlay for three times my original bet, I’m not going to risk blowing my bet by getting greedy with the points. Liberty smacked Syracuse in the Carrier Dome a year ago, App State has a much improved defense and Marshall can’t run the ball, and Carolina’s getting to face the Davis Mills-led Texans.

Could I get more for this? Sure, I could be aggressive and get +500 for this play by taking these teams where Vegas has them. But why would I risk losing to the hook when I’m already getting a good payout? Answer: I wouldn’t, so that’s why I’ve got this bet here.
