Week 1 is finally here which means it’s time to find some NFL winners to make up for all of the MLB losers you bet on all summer when there was nothing else to bet on (or maybe that’s just me). Anyway, there are a lot of unknowns at the start of a new season, but here are the bets I’m liking for Week 1.
6 Point Teaser – Cowboys +14.5, DAL/TB Over 46
Should be a great season opener featuring Dak’s return and the defending Super Bowl champs. +8.5 feels a bit high to me and I think getting 2 full TDs with the teaser is a lock. This game also has plenty of offensive talent on both squads so the over side of the teaser feels safe. I’m guessing Tom Brady is still a little hungover from getting hammered at the Super Bowl party so I might even sprinkle a little cash on Cowboys ML +320.
Jaguars -3
Full disclosure- I am a Jaguars fan. With that being said, this pick is more so a bet against the Texans than a bet on the Jaguars. The Deshaun Watson situation turned into a nightmare for a team that wasn’t even going to be very good with him. I’m not completely sold on Urban Meyer as an NFL head coach but I think Trevor Lawrence scores enough points to come out on top of this one.
Vikings -3
Honestly I’m even surprising myself with this pick. I’m a big Joe Burrow guy and I’m definitely not a believer in Kirk Cousins. However, on this one I have to look at the talent surrounding each of these guys and I think the Bengals just have too little. If Burrow stay healthy the Bengals should improve as the season goes on and we all know the Vikings will develop into the annual disappointment that they are, but Week 1 goes to the purple and gold.
6 Point Teaser – Bills -.5, Chiefs PK
Very little analysis into this pick. It’s just 2 good football teams who are both playing at home and with -6.5 and -6 point spreads, a teaser makes it so they each simply need to win. I do think the Browns will be very competitive but I don’t see them pulling it out in Arrowhead.
Packers -4.5
Aaron Rodgers. That’s really all needs to be said. The offseason was full of drama for the Packers and Rodgers but in the end he is back playing in those ugly Packer uniforms and I’m scared for any defense that is about to face him. For the Saints Drew Brees is gone and been replaced by Jameis Winston, so let’s hope the fans are ready for a lot of 4 TD and 4 INT games. Also, this game has been moved from New Orleans to Jacksonville and from my experience the home team typically doesn’t do well in that stadium.
