It’s finally time for Europe’s top leagues to return, as the Premier League and the Bundesliga kick off on Saturday. With MLS also on the slate, there’s plenty of options available for soccer betting this Saturday and plenty of chances to win plus money. Here are my best plays from around the globe for August 14.
LEICESTER TO WIN TO NIL, +155
Wolverhampton has made itself a tough out over the past two years, but one team they haven’t done that against is Leicester City. The Foxes have clamped down on Wolves over the past two seasons, shutting out Wolverhampton in four consecutive meetings. With Leicester likely to get off to a strong start to the season as fans come back to the King Power Stadium, a win to nil is a strong play.
UNION BERLIN-BAYER LEVERKUSEN DRAW AND BTTS, +310
These teams were neck-and-neck in 2021, with Union Berlin claiming a 1-0 win at home and the teams sharing the points at Leverkusen. Union has made East Berlin into an iron fortress, as the Iron Ones have not lost in 16 consecutive home matches. However, both teams have scored in Union’s past six matches in East Berlin, and two of Bayer’s past four road matches have finished level, so a score draw holds a lot of value.
WATFORD-ASTON VILLA OVER 2.5, -110
Aston Villa didn’t play much defense last season, as nine of the Lions’ final 10 contests saw at least three balls hit the net. Watford has found the net in 15 straight matches at Vicarage Road, and although the Hornets won 12 of those matches to nil, this isn’t the Championship anymore. Watford will likely find the going tougher in the Premier League, especially with former Southampton scorer Danny Ings now wearing the claret and blue of Villa. Expect some scoring here.
TORONTO-NEW ENGLAND DRAW AND BTTS, +290
Four matches at BMO Field, and all four of them have finished in a score draw, so I’m going to keep riding this train until it crashes. I think there’s a good chance that this makes it five, as New England still hasn’t looked quite right with Carles Gil on the shelf. Unlike Philadelphia, Toronto doesn’t have any reason to rest players, so I’m looking for the Reds to emerge with another tie at home.
AUSTIN FC TO GET SHUT OUT, +160
The road continues to be a dark and depressing place for Austin, which has been shut out in five of its past six road matches. RSL hasn’t exactly looked impressive at home, which is why I’m not going to play them to win to nil, as I think there’s a good chance this match finishes scoreless. But with Austin failing to get any attack going on the road, I like the chances of the Oaks taking another goose egg.
